This family-friendly pop-up area brings engaging play activities for children of all ages to Tacoma events. The Play Nook also offers a calming space, complete with a tent and noise-canceling headphones, for children with sensory sensitivities. Our neighbors at the Vancouver Community Library here in Washington know how to turn their public community space into a place for enriching play! Vancouver Community Library`s Early Learning Center dedicated an entire floor to children, with age-appropriate books available as well as exhibits and displays containing plenty of activities and activations for children such as toys, blocks, moving fans, and even a tent to hide in.

Special thanks to Campfire Coffee Co. for being a part of the CYC movement! Located just a short walk from the University of Washington Tacoma campus, Campfire helps fuel young students, with a little library stocked with children`s books and an indoor space decorated to look like an outdoor camping paradise! Campfire also holds programs for youth, as well as gear rental to help make outdoor activities accessible for all.

Research shows that the community members who are most likely to participate in planning commission meetings across the United States are older, male, longtime residents. So how do you get more people involved? Ithaca`s response: childcare at all city council and commission meetings. Teenagers already employed at a city-run community center watch children at a converted city hall conference room, and people are utilizing it.

If you haven`t ventured to Wilkeson to check out Simple Goodness Soda Shop, you`re missing out! This farm to table cafe, tasting room, and community hub is a third place for both caregivers and their children. A section of the cafe is made just for children, with games and books, a chalk wall, and child-sized seating. They host playdates and family friendly events and have intentional conversations with their staff about how to set boundaries with children around appropriate behavior.
